We reached out to a few parents of Camp E-aster Seals campers to find out what they thought of our virtual camp program. Here is what William’s dad, Phil, had to say:
“William looks so forward to connecting with his peers on virtual camp. He loves to interact with the councillors and other campers… it means a lot to him to be part of this community and even more during these difficult times during a pandemic and lockdown.
[Virtual camp] has given William structure and something to look forward to each day. Each day’s activities give him a sense of accomplishment and participation along with amazement and wonder. The live events are his favourite when he gets to see everyone and he loves to participate in whatever the topic is.
It is a pleasure and a relief as a parent to watch William participate and enjoy the games, activities and interactions. The social connection is so important to him as he has not ventured out too much from home since the pandemic began. He does online schooling as well as a few other activities from home and this camp provided a wonderful outlet for him and something new during a time when there are not a lot of options for him.”
When asked what William’s favourite thing about virtual camp is, Phil responded, “A very difficult question to answer as he enjoys all of the activities and games. He enjoys looking at all the pictures and reading the comments on the virtual camp website through the ‘Sizzle” part. But when I asked him this question, he quickly answered the Live Events or the Zoom sessions for the topics and the social interaction. It makes him feel like he with people which is so important.”
Phil concluded on an encouraging note, stating, “Great job by all involved on Easter Seals end. You can notice the ease of the virtual campers’ experience and the improvements made over previous sessions. Keep up the great work Easter Seals! You are making a world of difference in the lives of your campers.”
Thanks for your kind word Phil!
