Brent Morning doesn’t want recognition, he just wants to help the kids, “always for the kids.” Easter Seals did a lot for him and he wants to give back. Over the years working with Easter Seals, he has met a lot of great people and learned a lot from his experiences.
He was born with cerebral palsy and introduced to Easter Seals at a very young age, and has had quite a journey over the years. Brent has many inspiring stories from his fundraising with Easter Seals, starting with skating with Bobby Orr, who helped him with his final laps of a 50-lap challenge.
Brent has always surrounded himself with great people who have inspired him with a ‘can-do’ attitude, including his mom and dad who pushed him to see things through and to do all he can. He says he was “raised with a positive attitude, surrounded by great friends and support from the community.”
Participating at Easter Seals camp in his youth allows Brent to bring a different perspective to his fundraising, and he can use those experiences in his fundraising efforts. Over the years, Brent has had a part in raising over $200,000 for Easter Seals kids. In 2014, Brent called Friends of We Care, supporters of Easter Seals camps, about an idea for an affordable golf tournament. In his first year running the event, he had 40 participants and raised $4,000. The event has grown since then, and he has raised over $65,000 to send kids to camp with the support of others including the event emcee, Canadian downhill skier, Brian Stemmle. Unfortunately, this year’s event was cancelled due to COVID-19, but Brent still has the support of his sponsors and plans to raise $7,000-$8,000 this year.
While supporting Easter Seals, he has met a lot of great people and learned a lot from his experiences. If there is a child out there discouraged by their disability, he wants them to know: “It will all work out. If I can inspire others, giving hope to parents or kids, if they hear my story and it encourages them to do more and realize there are opportunities out there; you just have to find your way.”
Why get involved with Easter Seals? “It is a great organization that supports the kids and has provided me with great opportunities and there is no reason you can’t have these great experiences of your own. If you walk into opportunities with a positive attitude to help kids and make a difference, that’s the key – GO FOR IT! Reach out, ask questions, and learn more. Believe in the cause and envision what you want to happen.”
