In Peterborough, Stuart Harrison is a familiar face, a respected name, and a kind man. Stu is the centre stage host of the Peterborough Telethon and is adored by the crew on set and by our donors, who make the phones ring every year. While in the studio, it’s not uncommon to hear shout outs from his fans, “Please tell Stu that Mabel says hello!”
Easter Seals kids love Stu – they just light up with huge smiles and lots of drool when they see that Stu is there! The kids and families enjoy catching up with Stu, as he has been supporting Easter Seals Telethon for some 40-ish years and has watched many of our kids grow into amazing young adults. You can see the connections made, and the mutual admiration on set each year.
Beyond that, Stu is respected by our staff and committee members. He offers hindsight, experience, wisdom, and laughter. He challenges us to do better, to raise the bar, to be different, to pause… to be smart.
Stu is unaware of his value, and it’s one of the things that makes him so invaluable. The original (and current) meaning of invaluable is “valuable beyond estimation.” The word describes something so precious that one cannot assign a price to it. Yes… this is Stu Harrison – he is invaluable, and yes, he is the CEO of the Peterborough Chamber of Commerce, but to Easter Seals in Peterborough he is our secret weapon.
