Over the past 100 years, Easter Seals Ontario donors have demonstrated their shared commitment to helping kids with physical disabilities by including Easter Seals Ontario in their Will. Remembering Easter Seals Ontario in your estate plans can make a substantial and lasting impact on the lives of many kids with disabilities for years to come.
Putting Kids First: Paul’s Story
“I grew up in the Ottawa Valley, one of two boys. Sports consumed most of my life as a kid, and I was lucky enough to attend university on a football scholarship.
I decided to join my local Rotary Club after graduation. And when a spot opened up for our club on the Board for Easter Seals Ontario, I was happy to take it. I didn’t know much about Easter Seals back then – but it didn’t take long for me to become deeply passionate about the cause.
Is there any better reward than seeing a smile on a kid’s face?
I feel immense joy when I visit the Easter Seals camps and see young people with physical disabilities fully participating in every kind of activity or sport you could imagine. You’re watching children transform before your own eyes, and it’s truly remarkable.
In fact, my late wife Alison and I chose to get married at an Easter Seals camp back in 1993. She was a passionate volunteer herself, and I carry her memory with me every day.
Alison and I were inspired by all the kids we met through Easter Seals. In the late 90’s we met a young provincial ambassador named Sarah. She and her mother grew to become more like family than friends to us.
Today, Sarah has overcome countless obstacles to become a well-loved teacher. She’s living proof of my impact as a long-loyal Easter Seals supporter. And I know that by leaving a gift in my Will to Easter Seals, I’ll be helping more children like Sarah grow into capable, successful adults. Perhaps you might be considering this type of giving yourself?
I trust the gift I leave will help change lives for years to come – and I hope someday to be remembered as someone who truly made a difference for others.”
