Join us in spreading awareness and bringing attention to the challenges faced by children and youth with physical disabilities. Throughout the month we will be featuring Easter Seals kids and families, sharing their stories, and checking in with them after a year of unprecedented challenges.
For families with a child who has a disability, this month marks one full year of struggling to cope with a lack of personal care, therapy, and respite support as a result of the pandemic. Many families have been providing 24/7 care to their child and they are exhausted. Having access to the right mobility and accessibility equipment can help avoid injury and make life at home easier and safer for both Easter Seals kids and their families.
In addition to improving safety and mobility, having access to essential equipment helps Easter Seals kids live with greater dignity and freedom while at home. Since the pandemic started, many children with physical disabilities have had no contact with anyone outside of their immediate family due to their fragile immune systems. With no access to school, social activities, therapy or other support services, they have become physically and socially isolated, and their mental health has suffered.
By helping to spread awareness and fundraise through the month of March, you can help a child with a physical disability access a communication device that will help them connect online with their friends, a commode chair so they can use the bathroom without help from mom or dad, or a wheelchair that will enable them to move around their home freely.
You can help Easter Seals kids and their families through this challenging time by following us and resharing posts on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn, sharing your story, finding a local fundraising initiative in your area, or making a donation to Easter Seals Ontario.
