Donor support helped cover the full cost of the mobility equipment Kae needs, easing financial stress and supporting his growing independence.

At 9 years old, Kae-Marsel is a well-behaved, easygoing kid who loves spending time with his twin brother, Jay. The two are best friends, whether they’re playing games, watching TV, or just hanging out.
Kae attends school full time and genuinely enjoys it. His mom, Latanya, says both boys love going to school, something that makes mornings a little easier and speaks to how confident and capable Kae feels in his day-to-day life.
Born with a condition that affects the alignment and stability of his legs, Kae wears braces on both feet, known as ankle foot orthotics, to support his mobility. He wears them every day except when he’s at home, and over time they’ve helped improve his stability. As Latanya puts it, things are getting better “day by day.”
“I was so elated when I found out the full cost would be covered.”
What stands out most about Kae is his determination. He doesn’t like being told he can’t do something and believes he can manage just like everyone else. While his school has provided extra supports in the past, including a walker and a special desk, Kae now uses a regular desk and continues to grow in independence.
When it came time to purchase Kae’s braces, the cost was a real concern for the family. At the time, Latanya was unemployed, and her husband’s work slows during the winter months. Like many families, they were facing the reality that essential mobility equipment is not fully covered by government funding.
Support from Easter Seals Ontario made all the difference.

Latanya remembers being told that the funding might only cover part of the cost, then receiving the email confirming that the full amount would be covered. “I was so elated,” she says.
Thanks to the generosity of donors, Kae was able to receive the braces he needs without adding financial stress to his family. This support allows kids like Kae to keep doing what matters most: going to school, spending time with family, and moving through the world with confidence.
“What stands out most about Kae is his determination. He believes he can manage just like everyone else.”
Latanya now makes a point of telling other families about Easter Seals Ontario whenever she can. “I spread the word,” she says, hopeful that more parents will find the same support when they need it most.
Thank you to the generous donors who make this support possible. Your contributions help ensure children like Kae can access essential equipment and continue building confidence and independence every day.
