International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is an annual global celebration of persons living with disabilities, that will take place on December 3, 2020. The theme for IDPD 2020 is “Building Back Better: Toward a Disability-Inclusive, Accessible and Sustainable Post-COVID19 World”.
To celebrate this annual observance and the contributions of people living with disabilities to society, Easter Seals Canada is once again partnering with Amway Canada on a year-end matching gift campaign. Starting on Giving Tuesday on December 1st until December 31st, 2020, Amway Canada will match, dollar-for-dollar, all donations made to Easter Seals Canada, up to a maximum of $15,000. Donations raised will help Easter Seals provide vital programs and services in support of persons and families living with disabilities.
The observance of the Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
This year’s event will emphasize the importance of disability-inclusive responses to COVID-19 and take stock of progress in “building back better,” including addressing the global policy framework on disability-inclusive development newly adopted by the General Assembly Third Committee this past November. It will also focus on important steps taken by civil society and the private sector to “build back better” in a disability-inclusive manner. Learn more at UN.org.
