Easter Seals camps are miraculous places where campers with disabilities experience a sense of freedom and acceptance.

Easter Seals camps are miraculous places where campers with disabilities experience a sense of freedom and acceptance. For many, this newfound feeling represents an unparalleled experience, and this was the case for me.
My name is Morgan Murphy and I am a former Easter Seals camper and Regional Ambassador for the Windsor-Essex area. At the age of 4, I was diagnosed with scoliosis. By age 7, the condition had progressed to a severe level, leading to two spinal surgeries annually until the age of 12. The frequent surgeries meant that as soon as I recovered, another procedure would be necessary.
As a result of my condition, I have titanium rods fused to my spine. This made the activities I could participate in very limited, making my world seem very small. However, everything changed when I discovered Camp Woodeden.
“As soon as you leave your vehicle you are immediately met with the warmest welcomes.”
I was extremely hesitant about attending Camp Woodeden for the first time. Previous camping experiences were never truly enjoyable for me, and I couldn’t imagine a camp that was fully inclusive. But, I was proven very wrong.
As soon as you step out of your vehicle, you are greeted with the warmest welcomes. You are then guided through the breathtaking camp, surrounded by beautiful buildings and towering trees. However, what stood out to me the most were the campers, each with their own unique stories and experiences. Immediately, I felt safe.

At camp, I was most excited to explore my passion for cooking. The hands-on classes at Woodeden not only honed my skills but also encouraged me to find creative ways to adapt tasks, making cooking easier and more accessible. Inspired by my camp experience, I enrolled in cooking classes at my high school to further develop my abilities. The techniques I learned at camp have become invaluable in my everyday life. Easter Seals camps offer more than just fun; they provide opportunities to develop essential life skills that you carry with you beyond camp.
It is truly important for every child to have the opportunity to attend Easter Seals camp. This experience not only fosters lasting friendships but also creates treasured memories and builds valuable skills, critical for navigating the world. Easter Seals Camp Woodeden played a crucial role in shaping who I am today by helping me build confidence in my abilities and discover my true personality.
