For over five years, committee member, dancer, hockey enthusiast, and volunteer Rob Wojtasik has dedicated numerous hours to supporting Easter Seals children. Whether it is participating as a celebrity dancer for Dancing With Easter Seals Stars, entering a team in the Halton Hockey Classic, or acting as a committee member for the Todd Harvey & Friends Sports Celebrity Golf Tournament, Rob is committed to supporting Easter Seals children.
We asked Rob a few questions about his involvement with Easter Seals and here’s what he had to say:
How did you first get involved with Easter Seals?
You’re testing my memory on this one….I believe my first Easter Seals experience was at the Barrie golf event, I attended with my good friend Derek Myke and was first introduced to Easter Seals and what they do at that event. To be completely honest, I had no idea what Easter Seals was or did prior to that.
Why is supporting Easter Seals important to you?
Easter Seals has become a very important part of my life. After being introduced to Easter Seals I started to get more involved by helping to put together the Todd Harvey & Friends golf event several years ago. Helping to put that together led me to being invited to attend Camp Day at Woodeden, which is an experience that had a huge impact on me and one that I will never forget. That day, we had a chance to visit the camp and to see where a lot of the fundraising dollars from these types of events are put to work. We heard from the Camp Director, from the Camp counsellors and, most importantly, got to hear from and see the kids who get to experience that incredible place. It was such an emotional day and a very moving experience for me.
I tell anyone I know who is involved in fundraising for Easter Seals that they need to experience Camp Day to get a true feel for who and what Easter Seals is. I came home from that first Camp Day experience with a much greater understanding of what Easter Seals is, the individuals and families that they support, the funding challenges they face and just how important the organization is to not only the children that are impacted but the families as well.
Meeting those kids and hearing their stories and how important Easter Seals is to them was one of the most movingexperiences of my life and that is why Easter Seals has become so important to me and my family.
What is it that makes you stay involved with the organization?
I can’t imagine not being involved with Easter Seals now. It really was the Camp Day experience that has impacted me to do more. Since then I have gotten my family and friends more involved in fundraising and helping them to understand who Easter Seals is and what they do. I have been blessed with the opportunity to be involved and help on a much bigger scale from helping to organize the Todd Harvey & Friends golf event, to dancing in Dancing with the Easter Seals Stars, attending the Barrie golf event, helping to create not one, but two hockey teams with my good friend Murray Solski to participate in the Brad May Celebrity Hockey event. Meeting the Easter Seals kids at these events is what motivates me to stay involved and to continue to do what I can to help.
It is an incredible organization with the most dedicated group of staff and volunteers you will ever meet.
Rob’s tireless efforts and huge heart make him a valuable asset to Easter Seals. Thank you for your incredible commitment and unwavering support Rob, it truly is appreciated.
