Toronto, Ontario, April 24, 2014 – The community of Newmarket will welcome back nearly 1,000 runners and walkers at Newmarket Riverwalk Commons on Sunday, May 25 for the annual Easter Seals 10k Run, 5K Run and Walk. The scenic Fairy Lake Park and Tom Taylor Trail system will serve as a flat, fast and scenic course for participants walking and running 5 and 10 kilometres dressed in their brightest running attire in support of this year’s theme, “TIGHT and BRIGHT”. Easter Seals Ontario is thrilled to welcome back Upper Canada Mall as the title sponsor for the event, the largest fundraising event for children with physical disabilities in Newmarket.

The accredited race offers chip timing for both 10k and 5k runners and all participants age 6 and older will receive fluorescent technical t-shirts and finisher’s medals. This family-friendly community event will be emceed by Rogers TV Daytime host Jeff Moore and will feature a post-race party with food for athletes, as well as games and activities for the whole family. The awards presentation will recognize the top 3 overall male and female finishers in both the 10k Run and 5k Run as well as first, second and third place medals to the top 3 male and female finishers in the 10k Run and 5k Run in 5 age categories. In addition, prizes will be distributed for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place overall and a draw for a return flight for 2 anywhere WestJet flies will also take place.
Formerly known as the Easter Seals 10k Run, 5k Run & Walk founded by Joe Persechini, the event is York Region’s longest running fundraiser for children and youth with physical disabilities and was first held in 1976.
