Relay Fundraising Extended to August 1
Easter Seals extends our thanks and gratitude for your time, effort, and support in participating in the 24 Hour Relay June 24-25. Four weeks after the event, we hope that you're now fully recuperated!
Thanks to people like you, we were able to help thousands of families this past year by providing financial assistance for equipment and services such as youth leadership programs, once-in-a-lifetime camping experiences, and Recreational Choices Funding Program activities – all so vital to a child’s freedom, confidence and self-esteem. Read more below about your help inspires and supports Patrick and his family.
The Relay weekend was a great success but the fundraising is not over yet. We have just extended the date to fundraise until Monday August 1, 2006 in an attempt to make up for a shortfall of $50,000. During this time, online fundraising will remain available as an easy way for you to raise funds.

Lending a Helping Hand
Direct financial assistance for equipment is probably the most important service Easter Seals provides. Just ask the Murphy family. Patrick Murphy was born prematurely. Before he was diagnosed, his mother had said: “When he was sleeping, he looked like any other child.” And later, they started to realize that something might be wrong. After a CAT scan they received the diagnosis – Patrick had a catastrophic brain injury. Kari Murphy left her job and never went back.
Once the Murphy’s settled into their life caring for Patrick, they embraced the challenge, took everything they learned and opened their lives their home and their hearts to six other children with special needs. It was possible thanks to financial assistance from Easter Seals. |

“Leg braces are $1,700 each and we have four kids that need them replaced every year,” explained Mrs. Murphy. “As a single income family, there is no way we would be able to afford all of the equipment these kids need without Easter Seals.”

“Keep on trying. Never give up.
Never quit.”
Although he is legally blind and unable to walk, his power wheelchair has given him a sense of independence and freedom. “That was definitely one thing that Easter Seals did for Patrick that made a huge difference in his life,” added Kari. “That power chair gave him the ability to move. He could go anywhere … and quickly.”
“The best thing about my wheelchair is that I can go out and play with my friends,” added Patrick. “I like to race them on their skateboards.”
Patrick is now a popular, 12 year-old and is a straight “A” student in a regular grade seven class. And Patrick’s motto: “Keep on trying. Never give up. Never quit.”

Just $100 More to Reach Our Goal
Patrick is quickly growing and will soon need another power wheel chair, please help us raise the money much needed to get him the proper equipment and send him and his family to camp.
If each Relay participant fundraised an additional $100 we would reach our goal of an extra $50,000 to help kids like Patrick.
For those teams who haven't yet met the minimum fundraising required of $3,000, you now have until August 1 to raise these funds.
Please, raise an extra $100 for Patrick and the thousands of kids like him.
